El 24 de febrero de 1989, parte del fuselaje del lado derecho del vuelo 811 de United Airlines se desprendió, eyectando a 9 pasajeros y causando una descompresión explosiva. El avión aterrizó a salvo en Honolulú sin más perdida de vidas. Se determinó luego que un cortocircuito hizo que la compuerta de carga se abriera sumado a que esta tenía un diseño que incrementaba las probabilidades de una despresurización.
